Niger President to attend Mandela’s funeral

Niamey, Niger (PANA) - Niger’s President Mahamadou Issoufou left Niamey Monday for South Africa where he will attend the funeral programme of former South African President Nelson Mandela, according to the Niger Press Agency.

In a condolence message to the South African people, President Issoufou described the death of Mandela as a great loss to the whole of Africa.

“His noble-mindedness and empathy will remain forever in memory as a reference and source of pride,” the President added.

A memorial service will be held for the late anti-apartheid icon in Johannesburg Tuesday while his body will be available for viewing starting on Wednesday in Pretoria.

His remains will be interred on Sunday.
