Netherlands offers support in fight against AIDS

Ouagadougou- Burkina Faso (PANA) -- The Netherlands has offered Burkina Faso reagents for HIV tests and medicines for treatment of opportunistic diseases related to AIDS valued at 325 million CFA F.
The Dutch ambassador in Ouagadougou Wednesday handed over the donation to officials of the national AIDS control centre or CNLS.
Drugs, worth 171 million CFA F, will be distributed to 28 associations of persons living with AIDS while the reagents, valued at 154 million CFA F, will be distributed to public service laboratories.
According to CNLS permanent secretary, Dr Joseph Andre Tiendrebeogo, the support provided by the Netherlands has strengthened the country's programme against AIDS.
He said the gesture from the Netherlands aims at supporting AIDS control by supporting the transition between the planning process and action on the ground.
During 2000-2001, Netherlands has extended over one billion CFA F to AIDS control associations as part of its support to the multisectoral plan that is being finalised in Burkina Faso.
