Nelson Mandela joins boxing heavyweights

Cape Town- South Africa (PANA) -- World statesman Nelson Mandela, who is one of the most decorated personalities in history, has earned another accolade after Boxing South Africa announced that he will be inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame.
Mandela, who was a keen amateur boxer before he was incarcerated for 28 years by the apartheid regime, will join boxing legends Joe Louis, Sugar Ray Robinson and Mohammed Ali, as a decorated former boxer, Boxing South Africa said Tuesday.
Duane Moodley, chief executive officer of American film production company Imagine That, said he had persuaded the World Boxing Hall of Fame to induct Mandela.
Moodley said Mandela would be presented with a special belt and the presentation might coincide with Mandela's 85th birthday celebrations in July.
The World Boxing Hall of Fame has already written a letter of congratulations to Mandela although no specific date for its annual banquet has been set.
