Namibia's Pohamba to attend AU summit

Windhoek- Namibia (PANA) -- President Hifikepunye Pohamba leaves here Sunday for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to attend the 8th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State of the African Union (AU), the information ministry announced Friday.
It said foreign minister Marco Hausiku and other senior government officials would accompany Pohamba.
The AU Summit, whose theme is Science, Technology and Scientific Research for Development kicks off on 29 January.
Heads of state and government are expected to recommend actions to promote and facilitate the emergence and development of science and technology in African countries, the ministry said in a statement.
It said election of the chairman of the AU, adoption of the 2007 budget and the launch of 2007 as the International Year of African Football are among highlights of the summit.
