NGO takes HIV/AIDS war to the hapless

Nairobi- Kenya (PANA) -- Kenya's Laikipia West Rural Community Education Centre has been preaching the bible and urging displaced people to change sexual behaviour in a bid to prevent HIV/AIDS.
The centre was established two years ago to help displaced families find solace and accommodation after being affected by the 1991 ethnic clashes.
Its main objectives include promoting AIDS awareness, supply of relief food and rehabilitating the affected people.
Those clashes affected at least one million people mainly in the vast Rift Valley province.
The "refugees" are dispossessed and live in very poor conditions.
The centre's programme co-ordinator, Hosea Gitonga said on Wednesday that his NGO had virtually received no donor assistance.
Only the Association of Evangelical in Africa has contributed food, money and clothes, which the organisation turns over to the beneficiaries.
