NGO calls for reconciliation in Côte d’Ivoire

Cotonou, Benin (PANA) - An NGO based in Cotonou, the Observatory for a new Africa (ONA), has urged the new Ivorian authorities to urgently work for reconciliation in Côte d'Ivoire, following Monday's arrest of outgoing president Laurent Gbagbo by pro-Ouattara forces.

In a statement issued here Tuesday, the NGO ''welcomes the valiant Ivorian people for the enormous sacrifice they agreed to make to get there," and called on the new Ivorian authorities to give priority to reconciliation.

ONA expressed the hope that the worst is already over and that efforts would be made to ensure  reconciliation as well as the reconstruction of Côte d'Ivoire.

The NGO also called for the support of the international community for the reconciliation and reconstruction effort.
