NEPAD Business Foundation pays tribute to Mandela

Lagos, Nigeria (PANA) - The South Africa-based New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) Business Foundation has paid tribute to the late ex-South African President Nelson Mandela describing him as a man with sterling qualities.

“Today we mourn the passing of the father of our nation, world statesman and respected leader, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela. As we mourn the loss of our beloved Tata Madiba we are compelled to carry on his legacy of unwavering commitment and constructive engagement when confronted with enormous challenges,” the foundation said in a statement on Saturday made available to PANA.

The foundation pledged to follow the footsteps of the first post-apartheid President of South Africa, who used his office to improve on the living condition of millions of people in the country and beyond.

“With his courageous spirit etched in our history and in our hearts, we will use our diversity as a catalyst to improve the lives of individuals in South Africa and throughout the African continent, in a true Madiba fashion,” the statement said.

It noted Mandela's selfless and gracious leadership, as a freedom fighter and statesman, which, it said, moulded the history of the country and inspired millions of followers around the world.

“He was and still is a beacon of hope, a wealth of knowledge and the personification of liberation and democracy in South Africa. Tata's (Mandela's) legacy inspires us to be tolerant and just in the face of adversity," it said.
