Mozambique: Transport minister annoyed by EU ban on Mozambique Airline

Maputo, Mozambique (PANA) – Mozambique's Minister of Transport and Communications, Gabriel Muthisse has expressed indignation at the European Union's decision to extend the ban on Mozambique Airline from flying over the European airspace.

A report in a local newspaper,  'O País' was quoted Wednesday by the Mozambican News Agency (AIM) reporting that Mr Muthisse did not welcome the EU stance and said his government "works for the Mozambicans and not for Europeans."

"The big problem is that I don't work for Europeans but for the Mozambicans, and the works to extend airports, to buy new planes and strengthen the capacities for our regulatory institution are not for the Europeans," said the minister.

Mozambique Airline has been banned from flying over the European airspace since 2011 on grounds of inefficiency in certification of air operators, absence of a legal framework for regulation of civil aviation in the country and the limited number of qualified technicians working in civil aviation.
