Minister launches consumer awareness campaign in Mauritius

Port Louis- Maurice (PANA) -- Mauritian Trade and Protection of Consumers Minister, Motee Ramdass Tuesday in Port-Louis launched a national awareness campaign on the rights of consumers as part of activities for the celebration of the International Consumers Day.
The campaign is supported by the Mauritian Consumers Association and the Institute for the Protection of Consumers.
"The watchword this year, is sensitisation and information," Ramdass said at the launch, adding that campaign posters and brochures were being distributed throughout the country.
The campaign, to be boosted by radio and television commercials and programmes, seeks to encourage healthy competition and the liberalisation of trade, the minister noted.
Naz Sobdar, an official of the Consumer Protection Unit (CPU), said personnel from the organisation would visit the regions to record consumer complaints on prices, as well as quality and quantity of products on sale.
