Mauritius sets up medical disciplinary tribunal

Port Louis- Mauritius (PANA) -- Authorities in Mauritius have established a medical disciplinary tribunal to probe allegations against public and private doctors in the country.
Health minister Ashok Jugnauth said the panel, which is presided over by former judge Abdullah Malleck Goolab Ahmed, was set up Thursday in accordance with the Medical Council Act of 1999.
Jugnauth said the tribunal would report findings to the Medical Council for appropriate action.
"It would in the future be called to inquire into allegations against pharmacists and nurses also," he said, adding, "Too often, the public thinks that the ministry manipulates the cases of medical negligence in favour of doctors.
