Mauritius: Mauritians vaccinated against flu as winter season starts

Rose-Hill, Mauritius (PANA) - Mauritius on Thursday launched the 2015 anti-influenza vaccination programme for persons aged 60 and above, children with disabilities as well as inmates of private licensed homes, PANA reported.

The Mauritian Social Security and National Solidarity Ministry launched the vaccination programme at the Social Security House in Rose Hill, 25km south of the capital, St Louis.

The 9.2-million-rupee (about US$325,000) programme is free for the citizens and will be extended to the whole island in the coming weeks, Social Security and National Solidarity Minister Fazila Jeewa-Daureeawoo said.

The exercise is being carried out under the supervision of a team of doctors and paramedical staff of the ministry.

About 300,000 of the Island's 1.3 million population will benefit from the initiative.
