Mauritius: Malagasy president due in Mauritius on Thursday

Port Louis, Mauritius (PANA) – Malagasy President Hery Rajaonarimampianina is due here Thursday as chief guest of the government at the 48th independence anniversary of Mauritius to be celebrated Saturday, official sources said Wednesday.

The president will lead a 50-member delegation, including three ministers – namely Rivo Rakotovao, responsible for Land Planning and Equipment; Béatrice Attalah, responsible for Foreign Affairs and Narson Rafidimanana, in charge of Industry and Development of the Private Sector.

According to the official programme of the visit, apart from his participation at the Independence celebrations in Port Louis, the Malagasy President will meet with Mauritian Prime Minister Sir Anerood Jugnauth and President Mrs Ameenah Gurib-Fakim.

He will also take part in a working session with members of the government and the business community in the island.

A Mauritian government official has indicated that two agreements will be signed between the two governments - the first one on modalities concerning the setting-up of special economic zones in Madagascar and the second is a general agreement on cooperation.

He said the cooperation agreement is meant to strengthen the existing friendly relations between the two countries, to consolidate their historic links, to promote and support cooperation in different sectors, including agriculture, trade, fishing, tourism, transport, education,  research, culture, environment, energy, health, innovation and information and communication.
