Mauritius: Air Mauritius posts 23.7million euro loss in 2014/2015

Port Louis, Mauritius (PANA) – Mauritian national airline Air Mauritius Thursday announced a  23.7 million euro loss during the 2014/2015 financial year ended March 2015 due to stiff competition, among other reasons.

In a public statement, Air Mauritius said the negative outcome of its operations was also influenced by the euro crisis, effect of hedging on 40% of the airline’s fuel needs, a weak seat occupancy on the Chinese route and increased operational costs.

The national carrier said it earned 463.1 million euros from transportation of 1,370,423 passengers while competition on its traditional routes from Mauritius increased.

The airline’s passenger traffic dropped from 75.5% to 73.7% compared to the previous year.
