Mauritanian bids for Francophone sports ministers body

Nouakchott- Mauritania (PANA) -- Mauritania will field a candidate to the general secretariat of the Confederation of French- speaking Youths and Sports Ministers (CONFEGES), official sources said Friday.
Mauritanian candidate Fall Youssouf is a top civil servant currently serving as a task officer at the Culture, Youth and Sports ministry in Nouakchott.
The election of a new COFEGES secretary general to replace Cote d'Ivoire's Victor Kouassi is scheduled during the second half of March 2005 in Paris.
A former international and skipper of the Mauritanian national basketball squad, Fall Youssouf has been associated with national and international sports bodies for nearly 30 years.
The Mauritanian government had withdrawn his first bid in 1997 for "African solidarity" in favour of Cote d'Ivoire's Kouassi.
Fall Youssouf has already begun his campaign with a trip to Senegal, as the Mauritanian foreign ministry has published a brochure to promote his candidacy.
