Mauritania launches vaccination campaign against tetanus

Nouakchott- Mauritania (PANA) -- The Mauritanian Ministry of Health and Social Af fairs on Sunday began a vaccination campaign against tetanus for new-born babies and mothers, an official statement said in Nouakchott on Monday.
Organized in collaboration with the United Nations Children?s Fund (UNICEF), the five-day campaign would be carried out in 9 areas of the country targeting seve r al hundreds of thousands of young girls and women.
The statement said 168 mobile health teams and 368 health agents are involved in the campaign, adding that the health centres were provided with vaccines necess a ry to the success of the operation.
The campaign hopes to hit 80% of its target.
Alongside the vaccination is a campaign to raise awareness on the disease target ed at schools.
