Mauritania: Nouakchott to host BADEA Board of Directors meeting

Nouakchott, Mauritania (PANA) - The Board of Directors of the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) will hold its first meeting for the year 2016 in Nouakchott from 2- 4 March 2016.

The meeting will be chaired by Yousif Bin Ibrahim Al Bassam, Chairman of the Board of Directors, with key members, including Dr. Sidi Ould Tah, Director General, in attendance.

A statement received by PANA on Monday said the agenda of the meeting included approval of a new batch of projects and technical assistance operations for the benefit of sub-Saharan Africa.

The meeting would also review a number of financial reports including a report covering the fourth quarter of 2015, a report on the Bank’s activities for the period January-February 2016 and the Bank’s annual report for 2015, the statement said.

The Board would also review the preparations for the 41st annual meeting of the Board of Governors to be held in Bahrain from 5-6 April 2016.

BADEA’s total commitments in sub-Saharan Africa countries, have significantly increased since 1975 to US$4.789 billion in December 2015.

BADEA says it adapts its development financing to countries’ priorities. The major focus is on poverty reduction, food security, protection of the environment and improvement of the living conditions of the population in beneficiary countries.

It adds that priority is given to infrastructure, agriculture and rural development, energy, the social and industrial sectors.

BADEA's interventions also include technical assistance operations and private sector projects.
