Mauritaina launches campaign against plastics materials

Nouakchott, Mauritania (PANA) – The the Mauritanian Environment and Sustainable Development Ministry on Monday launched a campaign to confiscate all materials made of non-degradable plastic in the markets of Nouakchott.

Scores of workers from the Department went to the markets and the main streets of the capital confiscating plastic materials and issuing notices to offenders.

The campaign follows the implementation of a law banning the import, use and commercialisation of plastic and other non-degradable materials.

"This law aims at ridding the country of harmful products to the health of the people and animals and those that pollute the environment," Colonel Ebnou Ould Ahmed, Regional Delegate of the Environment and Sustainable Development ministry said.

The use of materials made from non-degradable plastic is being banned progressively in many African countries.
