Lagos, Nigeria (PANA) - Many people were feared killed on Sunday when unknown gunmen attacked a mosque in Dogon Dawa village, located some 120 kilometres outside Kaduna, capital of the eponymous Kaduna state in northern Nigeria, police said.
State Police Commissioner Olufemi Adenaike confirmed the attack, saying it occurred around 5.30 am Sunday as Muslim faithful went for their morning prayers at the mosque, in Birnin Gwari council area of the state.
The local media quoted the police boss as saying many more people were injured in the attack.
The motive is yet unknown, but some residents said it may have been targeted at a local vigilante group who had recently foiled a robbery in the area.
