Mali says it has no candidate for ECOWAS top job

Bamako- Mali (PANA) -- Mali explained Thursday it has not presented any candidate for the post of Executive Secretary of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Foreign Minister Modibo Sidibe had been consistently mentioned by the international press as a possible candidate for the ECOWAS top job, to be decided at the 20-21 December Summit in Dakar, Senegal.
But the Foreign Ministry in Bamako said in communique that Mali has not submitted any candidature for the post to the ECOWAS Secretariat.
The clarification narrows the race to three candidates - Mohammed Ibn Chambas of Ghana, Albert Tevoedjre of Benin and Jeggan Senghor of Gambia.
The Dakar Summit will also elect a new ECOWAS chair to succeed Malian President Alpha Oumar Konare.
