Mali: President Keita appoints special advisor for fight against Ebola

Bamako, Mali (PANA) – Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Kéita has appointed Professor Samba Sow as Special Advisor at the Presidency in charge of coordinating the fight against the Ebola epidemic, said a communiqué issued Thursday by the Council of Ministers.

Before this appointment, Prof Sow was Director of the National Support Centre for the fight against the deadly Ebola disease.

Meanwhile, the Malian Ministry of Health said in its daily update Thursday that Ebola has so far claimed five lives since its outbreak in the country.

The victims included four cases linked to Guinean patients who died in a private hospital. Two confirmed cases of Ebola are undergoing treatment at a specialized centre.

No new case has been reported since 24 November. The number of contact-people listed by health authorities till 25 November and put under surveillance is 288.
