Malawian, Tanzanian Presidents for Mandela’s funeral Sunday

Lusaka, Zambia (PANA) - The State Funeral of former South Africa President Nelson Mandela, scheduled for Sunday in Qunu, Eastern Cape, is expected to be attended by several Heads of State and Government, including Malawian President Joyce Banda, President Jakaya Kikwete of Tanzania and Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn.

South Africa's Department of International Relations and Cooperation said in Pretoria Friday that others to be represented at the funeral include former heads of state, eminent persons, heads of delegation as well as heads of international organisations and the diplomatic corps.

Also in attendance will be Ralph Everard Gonsalves, Prime Minister of St Vincent & the Grenadines, Prime Minister Denzil Douglas of St. Kitts and Nevis, Zambia's Vice President Guy Scott, Iran's Mohammad Shariatmadari and Nicaragua's Commander and Army General Omar Hallesleven Acevedo.

Zambia’s former president Kenneth Kaunda, His Majesty King Letsie III of Lesotho and HRH Prince Charles of Wales in the United Kingdom will also attend.

South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Nkoana-Mashabane said the South African government appreciates the continued support shown by the international community since the passing away on 5 Dec. of former president Mandela.

“It is comforting to have amongst us leaders and other dignitaries representing the international community during this time of bidding our final farewells to Madiba,” said Minister Nkoana-Mashabane in a statement Friday.
