MFWA says journalist violently attacked in Togo

Dakar, Senegal (PANA) – The sub-regional rights body, Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), Thursday said a Togolese journalist, Ayi Atayi, has been ''violently attacked'' and his camera taken away.

In an MFWA statement, received here by PANA, the reporter, who works for privately-owned Forum de la Semaine, was on 2 July violently attacked while covering a dispute in Lome, the capital of Togo.

According to MFWA, the attack on the reporter left bruises all over his body.

The dispute was said to be between owners of Eda-Oba Hotel in Lome and members of a family who claim ownership of the land on which the hotel is situated.
