Local authorities association continues women leadership

Tsumeb- Namibia (PANA) -- The Association of Local Authorities of Namibia this week ended its 52nd annual congress, electing the former mayor of Tsumeb, Helen Nkandi Shiimi as president of the body.
Shiimi succeeds Mariental town councillor, Priscilla Beukes who served in the position since 1999.
Omaruru town councillor, Gruzi Goseb was re-elected as Shiimi's deputy.
Shiimi joined the Tsumeb Municipality council in 1998 and was town mayor in 1999 and 2000.
She is employed as a medical superintendent at the Tsumeb State Hospital.
Women presidents have headed the association for the past four years as part of its gender promotion initiative.
More than 200 delegates from various town councils and public service organisations attended the congress.
