Libyan MP appointed second deputy chair of AU roadmap committee for Libyan reconciliation

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The chairman of the Libyan Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs, Youssef al-Agouri, has been elected as the second deputy chair of the technical committee for the supervision and monitoring of the African Union (AU) roadmap for Libyan national reconciliation.

The election took place during a meeting held in the Congolese capital, Brazzaville, from 12 to 15 July, at the invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Francophonie and Congolese abroad, Jean-Claude Gakosso.

The meeting was under the patronage of President Denis Sassou Nguesso, chairman of the AU High-Level Committee on Libya, the Libyan News Agency (LANA) reported on Saturday.

Mr. al-Agouri participated as a representative of Parliament, along with a number of representatives of the Libyan parties, in the meeting to work for the achievement of national reconciliation in Libya and the restoration of security and stability so that the country regains its position and leading role in Africa.

In addition, the strategic adviser to the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Professor Mohamed El-Hacen Lebatt, was appointed chairman of the technical committee for the supervision and monitoring of the African roadmap for Libyan national reconciliation during its meeting from 14 to 15 July in Brazzaville, according to a statement.

The same source said that several basic principles were adopted by the participants for the organization of national reconciliation, in particular the total rejection of any form of foreign interference in the Libyan crisis, the condemnation, among others, of the use of hate speech and the commitment to national unity.

The meeting urged all Libyan political, social and military forces to engage positively in the launch of the comprehensive national reconciliation process, which is a necessary condition for the organisation of inclusive, democratic, and fair presidential and parliamentary elections on a constitutional basis and as soon as possible.
