Libya wants to play bigger role in Turkish-African relations - Libya's Presidential Council chairman

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - Libya's Presidential Council Chairman Mohamed al-Manfi said here Saturday he wants Libya to play a bigger role in the development of Turkish-African relations, given its geographical position as one of the most important maritime gateways to the African continent.

In a speech delivered at the official opening of the third Turkish-African Partnership Summit in Istanbul, Mr. al-Manfi highlighted the delicate conditions in Libya at this sensitive stage.

He, therefore, called for more efforts to be made to strengthen Libya's stability by supporting the existing temporary political authority, represented by the Presidential Council, to fulfill the security, economic and political obligations entrusted to it in accordance with the roadmap approved by the Political Dialogue Committee in Geneva.

The chairman of the Presidential Council added that the colonial experiences of most of countries on the African continent had made them eager to build foreign political and economic relations respectful of their independence, sovereignty, and national options, within the framework of the principles of international partnership among states.

The works of the summit began on Thursday at the "Gulf Convention Center" in Istanbul, while Friday saw several sessions between African officials and their counterparts from Turkey.

The president of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed al-Manfi, met in Istanbul with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, with whom he discussed the latest developments in the political process in Libya.

The also spoke on many other issues, including the holding of presidential and parliamentary elections.
