Libya holds workshop on 2023-28 National AIDS Strategy

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - A workshop on the National AIDS Strategy (2023-2028) has been held in Tripoli, aimed at defining the objectives to be achieved in the implementation of the plan.

It was organised by the Department of AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Diseases of the National Centre for Disease Control, in cooperation with the United Nations (UNAIDS).

The workshop focused on a joint presentation on the achievement of the global objectives regarding HIV diagnosis and priority issues, including the standardisation of diagnostic protocols at the level of blood banks and reference laboratories, said a statement issued on Saturday by the Centre.

Expanding the scope of diagnostic services to include primary health centres in providing counselling services, and strengthening their role in the principle of early detection of patients' cases were on the agenda of the meeting.

It was also agreed to establish an integrated linkage system that ensures the flow of comprehensive data that provides continuity of supply for laboratory needs in the area of HIV diagnosis.

Statistics from 2002-2003, from the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organisation (WHO) indicate that there are about 7,000 people living with HIV or AIDS in Libya. -
