Libya, Tunisia agree to increase frequency of flights to Tunisia from 3 Libyan airports
Tripoli, Libya (PANA) – Libya and Tunisia have agreed to increase the number of flights to Tunisia from three Libyan airports - Misrata (West), Sebha (South) and Beidha (East), the Libyan ministry of Transports of the Government of National Accord (GNA) announced on Monday.
The agreement was reached after a meeting between the Libyan ministry of Communications, Mohamed Salem Al-Choubi, and the Tunisian ambassador to Libya, Lassaad Laajili, in the presence of the vice-minister of Air Transports, Khaled Nasr Souissi, the mayor of Gharyan (about 80 km Southwest Tripoli) and the director of the Technical cooperation office, the ministry said in a communiqué.
The meeting discussed a certain number of issues linked to the regulation of the movement in border posts and passages between the two countries and the common land border post of Ras Jedir, particularly where another alternative post was proposed for the movement of trucks in order to reduce traffic jams for travelers, inaugurating a maritime line and air traffic with the return of Tunisair.
They also agreed on ways and means to intensify the airport security coordination commissions by holding technical meetings between the security services of the two countries to evaluate the airports and accelerate the return of flights between the two countries.
The ban by the European Union on Libyan planes was also discussed during the meeting.
It is worth pointing out that the Tunisian airline, Tunisair, resumed flights to Libya in May 2021 after several years of interruption following the deterioration of security in the country in 2014.
But since the establishment in March 2021 of the government and the stability in the country, several foreign airlines have resumed their flights to different Libyan cities.
