Libya: Speaker of Libyan Parliament attends 38th UNESCO Conference in Paris

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) – The Speaker of the Libyan parliament, Aguila Saleh Gueider, is taking part in the 38th Conference of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in Paris to support France's fight against terrorism.

According to his spokesperson, Hamid Safi, his participation in the conference is a strong message of support from the Libyan people to French people and government in their war against terrorism, after Friday’s terrorist attacks in Paris that claimed the lives for about 130 people.

The conference, which is due to end on 18 November with a meeting of presidents of UNESCO member countries, will look at the reports on the activities of the organization and the budget for 2016-2017, said Mr Safi.

The conference will also examine public programmes and policy issues and other constitutional, judicial, administrative and financial problems.

The relations between UNESCO member countries and the international organizations and the election of the executive council members and the composition of the official commissions are among other issues to be discussed at the 38th session.

The Speaker of the Libyan parliament will present the vision of the Libyan government to UNESCO and its place on the international scene for the future, in light of the challenges which the world is facing, said Mr Safi.
