Libya: Egypt closes air space to Libyan planes

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) – A commercial flight belonging to Libyan Airlines, bound for Istanbul, has been forced to fly black to Tripoli after Egypt banned it from flying over its air space, Libyan airport sources said on Tuesday.

Egypt on Monday carried out air strikes on targets of the organization Daech (Islamic State) in the Libyan city of Derna, after the release of a video by the terrorist group showing the execution of 21 Egyptian Coptic Christians.

Libyan airplanes flying to Turkey need to fly through Egyptian air space to avoid Cyprus, as the European Union has banned Libyan airlines planes from its air space for air safety reasons.

Earlier, Morocco suspended all flights between Moroccan cities and Libya for security reasons.

Foreign airlines suspended flights to Libya in July after the group Fajr Libya, a coalition of armed groups, including the Islamists, seized the main airport of Tripoli.

Turkish Airlines resumed their flights briefly to the Libyan capital, Tripoli, but suspended the flights last month because of the repeated attacks against the airport.
