Libya: Arab League designates Palestinian mediator for reconciliation in Libya

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) – The League of Arab States has designated former Palestinian Foreign Affairs Minister Naser Al-Kadwa to lead a delegation to Libya for consultations with the different protagonists in a bid to initiate a dialogue and national reconciliation in the country.

Libyan Foreign Affairs Minister Mohamed Abdelaziz announced on Saturday in Cairo, Egypt, that the Arab delegation had been mandated by Secretary-General Nabil Al-Arabi to have consultations with all the political elite in Libya namely the National General Congress, political parties, government, civil society and leaders and dignitaries from the tribes.

The Minister said he also discussed the means to activate the resolutions of Arab Summits regarding security and stability in Libya with Al-Arabi.

Abdelaziz said he believed dialogue in Libya rested with the Libyans themselves, recognizing, however, the need to engage the Arab League on this matter.

He spoke of his optimism concerning the initiative of the Arab League which, he added, “represents an added value to the democratic process in Libya and its promotion in the wake of a national dialogue”.
