Laurent Gbagbo, under arrest, wants hostilities ended in Côte d'Ivoire (Corrected)

Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire (PANA) – Laurent Gbagbo, arrested on Monday by the republican forces of Côte d'Ivoire (FRCI), has appeal for an end to military hostilities in Cote d'Ivoire.

Speaking on Télé Côte d'Ivoire (TCI), Gbagbo expressed the wish for a ceasefire.

"I wish for the end of arms. We should enter the civil stage of the crisis and end it," Mr Gbagbo said.

After months of post-election crisis due to Gbagbo's refusal to cede power to Alassane Ouattara, the world-acclaimed winner of the country's presidential run-off on 28 November, the situation had to go down to a serious conflict and war, ending with his arrest together with his wife and several of his close staff on Monday.

Guillaume Soro, the Prime minister appointed by Ouattara, has called for a total defeat of forces still loyal to Gbagbo, vowing "there will be no man standing".

Speaking on the channel TCI, Soro announced an operation to secure the city of Abidjan, the country's economic capital.
