Kufuor to bid farewell at AU summit

Accra- Ghana (PANA) – Ghana's President John Agyek-um Kufuor will attend the 11th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union (AU)in Sharm El-Sheikh, E g ypt, this week, where he will bid farewell to his colleagues.
Kufuor, the immediate past AU Chairman, ends his second four-year term as presid ent of Ghana on 7 January next year, as dictated by the constitution.
A press release signed by Andrew Awuni, press secretary to the president and pre sidential spokesperson, said Kufuor flew into Egypt on Saturday.
The Summit, which would focus on "Meeting the Millennium Development Goals on Wa ter and Sanitation", would be preceded by the 19th Summit of the Heads of State a nd Government Implementation Committee on the African Peer Review Mechanism.
The statement said a number of countries, including Nigeria and Kenya, were bill ed to be peer-reviewed at the Summit while Togo would sign up for future review.
Other items on the agenda are Union Government for Africa and the global food an d fuel crisis, the release said.
The current electoral impasse in Zimbabwe is also likely to take centre stage, i t added.
