Kufuor leaves for AU summit

Accra- Ghana (PANA) -- African Union (AU) chairman, Ghana's President John Agyekum Kufuor, left Accra on Monday for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to attend the 10th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of AU this weekend.
The summit, which the theme "Industrial Development of Africa", will also elect a new Chairman of the Union as well as consider the report of the Executive Council on the audit of the Union and that of the Ministerial Committee on Union Government.
A statement signed in Accra by Mr.
Andrew Awuni, the President's Spokesperson, said other issues that would be discussed were the appointment of Commissioners of the AU Commission and the adoption of the Budget for 2008.
The summit will also review the report on the Peace and Security Council and the security situation on the continent.
The Presidents of Ghana, South Africa, Uganda, Gabon and Libya will deliberate on the road map for a union government, ahead of the opening of the summit.
The statement said from Ethiopia, President Kufuor would continue to Rome, Italy, to attend the Annual General Meeting of the World Food Programme.
