Kenya: Kenyatta maintains early lead in Kenya presidential election

Nairobi, Kenya (PANA) - President Uhuru Kenyatta has maintained an early lead in Tuesday's presidential election, according to provisional results published by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The figures indicate that with provisional results from 17,051 out of 40,883 polling stations, the President Kenyatta has 54.58% of the votes followed by the main opposition leader Raila Odinga with 44.39%.

Joseph William Nthiga Nyaga, an independent candidate, is third with 0.24%. John Ekuru Longoggy Aukot has 0.17%; Mohamed Abduba Dida has 0.16%; Japhet Kavinga Kaluyu has 0.07% and Shakhaga Khwa Jirongo also 0.07% follow in that order.

Voting passed off peacefully despite fears of violence.

Kenyans also voted for members of parliament, senators, governors and female members of parliament, among others.
