Moammar Kadhafi said here Thursday that the opening of the Sahelian-Saharan Investment and Trade Bank (BSIC) was an important step and constitutes one of the mainstays of the economy for the Community of the Sahelian-Saharan States(CEN-SAD).
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the CEN-SAD eighth summit, Kadhafi noted that the bank would support the initiatives it recently launched for childhood, youth and African women.
He said the bank would grant loans to women, child-supporting associations, associations in charge of war and AIDS victims, as well as people engaged in training African women in rural areas.
Meanwhile, Kadhafi praised African women, who, he said, are engaged in social work for the betterment of the lives of their communities.
He cited the example of African First Ladies who are pursue the creation of associations for orphans, war and AIDS victims, saying such activities should be backed and encouraged.
