Kadhafi advocates more powers for AU president

Sirte- Libya (PANA) -- The president of the African Union (AU), Mouammar Kadhafi underscored in Sirte, Libya, the need to give the president of the AU some real c ompetences and power to represent the Assembly of the Heads of States and Govern m ent, PANA reported from here Saturday.
"Being incumbent president for a short or long period does not change anything b ecause the president has no competence," declared Kadhafi, whose one-year term a t the head of the AU expires at the end of the 14th summit of the organisation wh i ch opens on Sunday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Speaking during an exclusive interview with PANA on the eve of the Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the AU, he indicated that the situation would b e different if the president of the organisation were given real competences and the power to represent the Assembly of Heads of State and Government.
The Libyan leader said his role, whether at the head of the organisation or not, will continue through incitement for the edification of the United States of Af r ica.
