Jury to pick ECOWAS Anthem

Lagos- Nigeria (PANA) -- Members of a jury drawn from 10 ECOWAS member countries will converge in Abuja next week to pick the winning entry for the lyrics of the community anthem, sources at the Abuja secretariat of the sub-regional body said Saturday.
They told PANA that the jurors are expected in Abuja early next week ahead of Wednesday's session to select one of the 68 entries received from six member countries.
The winning entry will be passed on to the organisation's Council of Ministers, which will in turn send it to the Heads of State and Government for adoption.
The winning music for the anthem was picked in a similar fashion in 1996 and adopted by the Heads of State and Government at the Jubilee Summit of ECOWAS in Abuja last year.
Senegalese Salou Wade's entry was selected for the anthem's music, which was later fine-tuned by Nigerian musicologist Laz Ekwueme to make it "more African.
" Ekwueme's musical group rendered the music for the first time in public at the Jubilee Summit.
