Joint FIJ-WAJA mission visits Praia

Praia- Cape Verde (PANA) -- A joint delegation of the International Federation of Journalists and the West African Journalists Association is currently in Praia, the Cape Verdian capital.
The co-ordinator of the FIJ Media for democracy programme for West Africa, Gabriel Baglo and WAJA's secretary general, Alpha Sall, would assess the development of the press in the former Portuguese colony.
The two men would hold discussions with representatives of local journalists organisations, officials from the public and private media, the Council for social communication, as well as government officials in charge of the information and communication sector.
Furthermore, the joint delegation would also meet with leaders of non-governmental organisations involved in the promotion of human rights and democracy in Cape Verde.
Informed sources said the visit was part of preparations for the envisaged opening of the FIJ office for Africa in Dakar, Senegal.
