HIV/AIDS prevalence rate stabilises in Rwanda

Kigali, Rwanda (PANA) - The Biomedical Centre of Rwanda announced Sunday that the prevalence rate of HIV/AIDS in the country has been stabilised over the past three years at 3.1 per cent among the whole population.

The number translates to 206,000 people.

Official statistics show that 94 per cent of infected people in the country are receiving anti-retroviral drugs.

Rwanda marks World AIDS Day Sunday under the theme ''the role of the authorities in the struggle against the disease.”

People infected with HIV in Rwanda have been benefiting from several forms of assistance for the past few years.

The assistance include counselling, psychological aid in the training and initiation of vulnerable groups to revenue-generating and job creation projects.
