Gunmen kill Burundi journalist in ambush

Bujumbura- Burundi (PANA) -- Ali Bizimana, Programmes Director with the Burundi private radio, Bonesha FM, was killed in an ambush Monday by suspected rebels in the residential district of Mutanga, north-east of Bujumbura, his colleagues said Tuesday.
Bizimana was reported killed along with his six-year-old son, Munezero Hassan, after his vehicle was attacked.
But Antoine Ntamikevyo, another Director with the private radio, said Bizimana might not have been the target of the attack.
Four other vehicles on the same road were also hit by gunshots by the unidentified attackers.
Five seriously injured passengers were rushed to the King Khaled Hospital in Bujumbura for treatment.
In his tribute, Augustin Kabayabaya, chairman of the Association of Burundi Journalists (ABJ), said Bizimana symbolised "the tragic fate of thousands of Burundian civilians killed in the indiscriminate violence in the country for the past few years".
He urged the media to redouble efforts to reconcile Burundians.
Kabayabaya also appealed to "the media family to show courage and solidarity and devote all efforts to the search for peace in Burundi".
