Lagos, Nigeria (PANA) - Gunmen on Thursday killed four policemen at their duty post in Nembe Creek in Bayelsa, the home state of Nigeria's President Goodluck Jonathan, the police said.
State police command spokesman Eguavoen Emokpai said the unknown gunmen, who were riding in a speedboat, opened fired on the policemen. He did not give any reason for the attack.
Meanwhile, there are fears that four soldiers were killed in a similar fashion in the Brass area of the state also Thursday, sources said.
A military spokesman, Lt.-Col Timothy Antigha, said in a statement sent to the media that the attack took place at 10 am local time, while the military personnel were en route Ogbia from Brass.
He, however did not say whether or not four soldiers were killed in the attack.
"Details are still sketchy for now. New developments will be communicated in due course," the military spokesman said.
