Gunmen kill 3 policemen in Nigeria attack

Lagos, Nigeria (PANA) - Gunmen killed three policemen during an attack on a police station in Nigeria's northern state of Adamawa on Thursday, according to local press reports.

The reports Friday quoted eyewitnesses as saying the bodies of the three policemen were seen lying outside the Gulak Divisional Police Station in Madagali council area of the state after the attack, in which the gunmen also used explosives.

They later escaped in a car they snatched from one of the workers of a nearby bank.

The state police commissioner, Mr Mark Idoko, confirmed the attack but said he was yet to be fully briefed.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack which, however, bore the hallmark of the serial violence being perpetrated by the Islamic sect Boko Haram.

Last March, gunmen also attacked a police outpost in the council area, killing three policemen and escaping with their rifles.
