Guinean writer criticizes UN roles in Cote d'Ivoire

Bamako, Mali (PANA) - Guinean writer and author of Le Roi de Kahel novel, Tierno Monenembo, has strongly criticized the action of UN in Cote d'Ivoire, which he likened to a recolonization of Africa.

In a report published Tuesday by the Malian private daily, Le Republicain, Monenembo said the UN did not have to decide "who is or who is not elected at the head of a country.

"In doing so, it is overstepping its authority."

He stressed, however, that between Laurent Gbagbo and Alassane Ouattara, he considered the opposition candidate psychologically and technically better equipped to govern Cote d'Ivoire.

Monenembo said that the role of the international community was not to take sides on the Ivorian crisis, spreading what he called "intemperate remarks in a situation as explosive as that of Cote d'Ivoire".
