Guadaloupian-born French footballer for racism conference

Paris- France (PANA) -- Guadaloupian-born French professional footballer, Lilian Thuram, is expected to attend the World Conference Against Racism (WCAR) to be held in Durban, South Africa later this month.
A source close to his family told journalists in Paris on Wednesday that the footballer intends to attend the meeting so as to identify himself with the black community in France.
"He is a militant championing our cause and I find it perfectly normal for him to travel to Durban as a Guadaloupian to defend his origins," said Joss Rovelo of the "Sud-PTT" union, a friend of the French professional player.
The French footballer is presently playing for Juventus of Turin, Italy, where white football fans have begun booing black professionals whenever they feature in matches.
Thuram played a key role in the French national team that won the 1998 World and European cups.
