Global food policy body releases ''2012 Global Hunger Index''

Dakar, Senegal (PANA) – The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and partners, Tuesday released a statement on the ''2012 Global Hunger Index'' which looks at world hunger situation and related issues.

''Unsustainable use of water, land and energy is challenging the food security of the poor and most vulnerable around the world,'' the statement, quoting from the index, said.

The new index, entitled "The Challenge of Hunger: Ensuring Sustainable Food Security under Land, Water, and Energy Stresses”, has been released annually for the past seven years running by IFPRI, Welthungerhilfe and Concern Worldwide.

The index assesses the state of world hunger, identifies the countries and regions where hunger and malnutrition are most severe, as well as draws attention to those that are most vulnerable.
