Ghanaian appointed ECOMOG Deputy Force Commander

Lagos- Nigeria (PANA) -- ECOWAS Monday named Ghanaian Colonel Robert Sackey as the Deputy Force Commander for the ECOMOG force due for deployment to Cote d'Ivoire Tuesday.
Sackey will assist Senegalese General Papa Khalilou Fall, the Force Commander.
Earlier on Monday, Benin announced the appointment of Colonel Boni Chabi Amoussa Mathieu as the Chief of Staff for the force.
ECOWAS leaders decided at a one-day meeting in Dakar 19 December to deploy a sub-regional force by 31 December 2002 to help in the restoration of peace to Cote d'Ivoire, which has been in crisis since a mutiny by a section of its military 19 September 2002.
ECOWAS officials told PANA in Lagos Monday the ECOMOG force would operate side by side with some 2,500 French troops now helping to enforce a cease-fire brokered by ECOWAS in October.
The sub-regional troops to Cote d'Ivoire are being contributed by Senegal, Benin, Togo, Ghana and Niger.
