Ghana opens book of condolence in memory of Kofi Annan

Accra, Ghana (PANA) - A book of condolence in honour of Mr Kofi Annan, the former UN Secretary General, opens at the Accra International Conference Centre on Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has announced.

The book will remain open until Tuesday August 28.

The Ministry said all Ghanaian Missions abroad shall also open a book of condolence to enable the public to pay tribute to “this great son of Ghana and a widely-admired International Civil Servant”.

Kofi Annan passed on in Switzerland last Saturday after a short illness. He was 80.

Meanwhile, Ghana's president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has also directed that the national flag will fly at half-mast across the country and in all of Ghana’s diplomatic missions across the world, from Monday, 20 August, for one week in memory of the late Ghanaian diplomat.

Kofi Annan's family and the Kofi Annan Foundation announced his death on Saturday.

Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
