Ghana: Senegalese president Sall elected ECOWAS chair

Accra, Ghana (PANA) - President of Senegal Macky Sall was on Tuesday elected the new Chairman of Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

The election took place at the 47th ordinary session of the ECOWAS  authority of heads of states meeting in Accra.

He succeeds Ghana's president John Mahama.

Sall will serve a one-year term but may be reelected for another year.

He expressed his gratitude to his colleagues for his election which comes as sub-regional group celebrates its 40th Anniversary.

ECOWAS was founded on 28 May 1975 with a mission is to promote economic integration.
