Germany joins fund to fight AIDS in Mozambique

Maputo- Mozambique (PANA) -- Germany Monday joined the Common Fund for the Fight against AIDS in Mozambique and contributed one million euros (about US$ 1.
57 mil l ion) to be used by the National AIDS Council (CNCS) during the next three years.
The agreement to this effect was signed between the German Ambassador to Mozambi que, Klaus Christian, and Mozambican Prime Minister Luisa Diogo, who is the chai r person of the CNCS, PANA reports, quoting the Mozambican News Agency, AIM.
"Known as the Multi-sector Control against AIDS in Mozambique, this programme is to be implemented by the German Technical Development Cooperation (DED), in par t nership with the Mozambican Health Ministry", according to a CNCS press release.
The document stated that by joining the initiative, Germany's intention is to pr ovide technical support to the CNCS, both at central level and in the provinces o f Inhambane, Manica and Sofala, where Germany has been undertaking various coope r ation activities.
The Mozambican Common Fund against AIDS now has eight partners, with the others being the World Bank; the Global Fund against AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria; Sw e den, Canada, Britain, Denmark and Ireland.
These partners, along with the government, have so far disbursed US$ 23.
6 millio n to finance activities of the CNCS for the current year.
