Lagos, Nigeria (PANA) - Ethiopian long distance runner Haile Gebrselassie has announced that he will run the Tokyo Marathon on 26 February 2012, where he hopes to qualify for that year's London Olympics.
According to athletics world governing body, IAAF, Gebrselassie tried to qualify in September at the Berlin Marathon, but he did not finish the race due to a problem with his lungs.
With his health problems now solved, he expects to be in full fitness in Tokyo.
Gebrselassie also planned to run this year's Tokyo Marathon, but he had to cancel this race because of a fall during training in Ethiopia.
The Games of the 30th Olympiad London 2012 would be the fifth Olympics for Gebrselassie, and he already possesses two gold medals at the 10,000m, which he won in 1996 and 2000.
